May 21, 2021 #4505693Generating sales leads with zero budgetMichelle DixonParticipantMay 21, 2021
I’ve been offered a new sales job for a startup. It’s more money than I’m on now base salary and if they do what they’ve said they’re going to do from a turnover stand point, it should be great on the commish too!
BUT they made it very clear that they have no budget for “fancy ass tools and software” and so I’d be selling with my noggin and ability.
So I guess what I’m trying to ask is along the lines of is it possible to win new business in 2021 without a stack of software to support you?

Congrats on the new offer! I’m in a similar situation as you. My company pays me well, but they are not huge fans of “Fancy ass tools and software” either.
I think is possible to sales without a stack of tools. However, it will be more difficult. I personally invest with my own money on these depending on their ROI (return on investment).
For example, I use seamless.ai to get prospect contact information. That tool has changed my game! I love it! I close more deals, and it makes my job easier, so I invest on it with my own money.
You would just have to determine which software gives you the best ROI. Follow the 80/20 rule to save money. Ask your self, what is the 20% of software that I use, that gives me 80% of the results, and only purchase those for a lean, cost efficient software stack.
Hopes this helps!
Cheers,
Liam

You don’t sound very confident that they’re going to deliver on what they’ve promised you.
Is there anyone there you can ask off the record what they’re earning and how the sales position is like?

No fancy software isn’t unreasonable. As long as they’ve given you the basics which at this point I consider –
– Email, phone etc
– LinkedIn Sales Navigator
– If you’re booking your own meetings, some form of email automation
– Calendly or similar to automate booking meetingsEven if they haven’t given you all that, you can probably pay for it yourself for $100 or so a month.
